BARTA – A Platform That Has Been Supporting Business Development Since 2019!
For six years now, BARTA has been fostering corporate reporting transparency, the implementation of sustainable development standards, and the enhancement of business trust in Georgia.
The initiative was established in 2019 within the framework of a joint project on financial inclusion and accountability by the European Union and the World Bank, in collaboration with the National Fund for Supporting Accounting, Auditing, and Reporting Reforms.
BARTA made its debut with a distinguished event – on December 17, 2019, a grand award ceremony was held at the National Library of Georgia, attended by representatives of local and international companies, regulatory bodies, consulting and auditing firms, and media representatives.
During the event, Georgian companies listed on the stock exchange with exemplary and transparent reporting were recognized.
Considering the success of the first year, it was decided to hold the competition annually. Today, BARTA is a leading platform that promotes business transparency, accountability, and sustainable development.
In 2023, BARTA celebrated its 5th anniversary and expanded even further – strengthening international support and increasing its impact, as reflected in the backing of international partners such as ACCA Global.
BARTA 2024 – A New Stage of Development and International Support
Starting in 2024, the initiative is supported by the World Bank’s Accounting, Auditing, and Sustainability Reporting Program (EAASURE), implemented by the Centre for Financial Reporting Reform (CFRR). The program aims to improve corporate reporting across Europe and Central Asia, particularly in the Western Balkans and EU Eastern Partnership countries. It also contributes to the enhancement of sustainability reporting standards and strengthens corporate accountability.
Over the years, BARTA has continuously evolved and expanded, as evidenced by the growing number of interested and participating companies, partners, sponsors, nominations, and award categories.
Between 2019 and 2021, the awards were limited to two main categories. However, since 2022, BARTA has significantly diversified its nominations, placing greater emphasis on sustainability reporting and introducing special awards.
In 2023, a special one-time nomination, "Most Improved Report", was introduced. In 2024, to encourage new companies, BARTA added the "Best Debutant Company" nomination. This change makes BARTA even more inclusive and provides companies with the opportunity to develop best reporting practices and strengthen their reputation in a competitive market.
